New Rochelle Goes Greener: AGZA Partners on Citywide Sustainable Landscaping Initiative

The American Green Zone Alliance (AGZA)  is proud to partner with the City of New Rochelle, Quiet Communities, Inc. (QCi), and Sustainable Westchester on a major sustainable landscaping initiative designed to create cleaner air, quieter neighborhoods, healthier working environments, and more sustainable landscapes throughout the New Rochelle community.

The program brings together municipal operations, commercial landscape professionals, and residents in one coordinated effort to accelerate the transition from gas-powered landscape equipment to cleaner battery-electric alternatives.

One Community. Three Paths to a Greener New Rochelle.

New Rochelle’s Sustainable Landscaping Initiative takes a comprehensive three-part approach:

Municipal AGZA-Certified Green Zones AGZA will work with the city to advance sustainable landscape maintenance practices at select municipal sites, including transitioning to professional battery-electric equipment and developing AGZA-Certified Green Zones.

Commercial Equipment Transition & Rebates Local landscape professionals will have access to education, hands-on equipment demonstrations, and financial incentives to help make the transition to commercial battery-electric equipment more practical and affordable.

Residential Education, Vouchers & Green Zones Residents will have opportunities to learn about healthier land care practices, access equipment vouchers, and establish residential AGZA Green Zones that can serve as sustainable landscaping models within their neighborhoods.

September Workshops: Learn, Test & Make the Transition

Education and hands-on experience are key parts of a successful transition—and New Rochelle has two important events coming up this September.

Participants will have the opportunity to see, test, and experience the equipment firsthand, learn more about transitioning their operations from gas-powered to battery-electric equipment, and explore available program resources and incentives to help support the transition.

Leading the Transition Together

“The best way for local government to inspire change is to lead by example. That’s exactly what this initiative does,” said Councilmember Sara Kaye. “By transforming the way the City maintains its own parks while helping residents and local landscaping businesses make the same transition, we’re creating quieter neighborhoods, cleaner air, healthier parks, and a more sustainable future for New Rochelle.”

Supported by more than $200,000 in NYSERDA Clean Energy Communities grant funding, the initiative builds upon New Rochelle’s longstanding GreeNR sustainability efforts while creating a practical pathway for municipal crews, landscape professionals, and residents to participate in the transition.

For AGZA, successful electrification has always been about more than replacing a gas tool with a battery tool. Education, proper equipment selection, workforce training, operational planning, and hands-on experience are essential to creating Green Zones that can succeed long-term.

AGZA is excited to bring that experience to New Rochelle and work alongside the city, QCi, Sustainable Westchester, landscape professionals, residents, and industry partners to help turn sustainability goals into real-world results.

Cleaner air. Quieter communities. Healthier crews. Sustainable landscapes.
