THE AMERICAN GREEN ZONE ALLIANCE CERTIFIES SOUTH PASADENA AS THE FIRST AGZA GREEN ZONE® CITY IN THE NATION!

QUIETER ZERO-EMISSION ELECTRIC GROUNDS MAINTENANCE TRANSFORMS A COMMUNITY.

South Pasadena, CA September 2nd 2016

The City of South Pasadena is the first AGZA Green Zone® City in the United States. The American Green Zone Alliance (AGZA) will certify the groundbreaking sustainability achievement at a public ceremony on Friday, September 9th at 11am in the city’s beautiful Arroyo Park. AGZA Green Zone City certification ensures that grounds maintenance on municipal properties — mowing, hedging, edging, trimming, sawing, and blowing — are serviced exclusively with low-noise zero-emission battery-electric machinery and manual hand tools.

This milestone caps three years of collaboration between AGZA and the city. AGZA consulted on the technology, features, and performance of the latest commercial electric equipment, and conducted hands-on training, safety, and field maintenance. The transition from antiquated gas to cutting-edge electric instantly eliminated all of the hazardous emissions created by internal combustion engines: Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Nitrogen Oxides (NOx), Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), and Particulate Matter (PM 10 and PM 2.5).

AGZA monitored the properties, operations and emissions over the last three years and documented just how much difference AGZA Green Zoning is making for the community. The city’s 13 properties span 41 acres, with 20 acres of mowing, 15 acres of blowing hardscapes, an acre of hedge trimming, and over 7 miles of edging. AGZA has calculated that South Pasadena’s new electric equipment is preventing the creation of 31 tons of pollutants into the local community every year. Year after year. Forever.

“in keeping with our pledge to become a more sustainable city, south pasadena worked with agza to transition municipal grounds maintenance from fossil fuel based operations to advanced cordless battery equipment, manual tools, and ecologically friendly landscape practices.

as a result, the city has been able to eliminate all fossil fuel consumption and toxic emissions, and has reduced noise by half.”

Micheal Cacciotti, Mayor Pro Tem of the City of South Pasadena,
and Governing Board Member of the South Coast AQMD

Thanks to AGZA Green Zone® certification, families, schools, and businesses of South Pasadena will enjoy more peaceful public spaces, and city grounds maintenance will no longer contribute to asthma-inducing air pollutants, local smog or climate change. The city’s groundskeepers won’t be exposed to hazardous noise levels, toxic fuel, carcinogenic fumes, or hand-numbing vibrations. The local water and soil will no longer absorb fuel and oil spills. And spent air and oil filters, spark plugs, and leaking cans of cleaning solvents will no longer pollute the landfill.

With powerful lithium-ion batteries, fast chargers, brushless motors, very minimal maintenance, extraordinarily low operating costs, thousands of charge cycles, and half the noise of gas, the lawn and garden industry is sprinting into the biggest transformation since the invention of the mower almost 200 years ago. And AGZA has established itself as the thought leader, tech watchdog, and pro-active sustainability expert through this evolution.
